Baylor Basketball: How Students Get Tickets, Beat the Lottery, and Make the Most of Foster Pavilion

Packed college basketball arena with student section cheering at a Baylor Bears game

If you've spent any time on Baylor's campus between November and March, you already know: Baylor basketball is a serious social event. The Bears have been one of college basketball's elite programs since winning the 2021 NCAA Championship — and since Foster Pavilion opened in January 2024, game nights have become even more electric. Seven thousand fans packed into a state-of-the-art arena on the banks of the Brazos River hits differently than the old Ferrell Center ever did.

The problem is that student tickets aren't automatic. There's a lottery. There's a points system. And if you show up Monday afternoon without knowing how the process works, you might spend the entire Big 12 season watching from your couch. This guide covers everything you need to know about Baylor basketball tickets, how to climb the priority ranking, and which games are actually worth fighting for.

How Baylor Basketball Student Tickets Work

Baylor uses a lottery system for student tickets rather than first-come, first-served. Here's the basic flow:

Every week before a home game, the student ticket lottery opens on Monday at 4:00 PM at studentgameday.web.baylor.edu. You need a Baylor student account to participate. Tickets are distributed electronically — no paper tickets, everything goes to your phone through the Baylor Bears app.

The system is designed to be fair, but demand heavily outpaces supply for the marquee games. That's where Pack the Pavilion priority points come in.

Priority Points: How They Work and Why They Matter

The Pack the Pavilion program rewards students who actually show up. Every game you attend earns you points, and those points move you up in the lottery ranking for future games.

Points per game:

  • Rival games (Washington, Houston, Texas Tech, TCU, BYU, Arizona): 250 points
  • All other home games: 100 points

Your points accumulate across the basketball season. Students with more points get priority access to tickets for sold-out games — the ones you actually want to see. So going to the lower-demand early-season games isn't just about basketball; it's a strategy for locking in seats when Kansas or Texas Tech rolls into Foster Pavilion later in the year.

A word of warning: Don't claim tickets you won't use. No-shows get restricted to 2-day advance reservations for their next game, which essentially puts you at the back of the line. Selling your student tickets results in a season ban. Baylor tracks this carefully.

What Is Foster Pavilion Like?

Foster Pavilion opened January 2, 2024 at 650 S University Parks Drive — on the west side of I-35, right along the Brazos River. Both the Men's and Women's basketball teams now play here, which is a significant upgrade from the women's program splitting time at Ferrell Center.

Capacity: 7,000 (up to 7,500 with standing room). This is actually much smaller than McLane Stadium's 45,140, which is exactly what makes it special. There's no bad seat. The student section on the east side of the arena is loud and close to the action. When it's packed for a rivalry game, the noise level is genuinely disorienting for visiting teams.

The building is purpose-built for college basketball — not converted from anything else, not shared with concerts. The sightlines are clean, the acoustics are intentional, and the pre-game atmosphere is worth showing up early for.

Which Baylor Basketball Games to Prioritize

Not all home games are equal. If you only have time for a few, here's how to think about the Baylor basketball schedule:

Must-attend rivalry games:

  • Kansas and Kansas State — the Big 12's legacy programs; these have the most electric atmospheres
  • Texas Tech — the Lone Star State rivalry draws passionate fans from both sides
  • TCU — growing as a rivalry with both schools elevating their programs in recent years

Strategic early-season games: Go to at least two or three of the early non-conference or lower-demand conference games even if the matchup isn't glamorous. This builds your Pack the Pavilion points before the high-demand games hit the calendar. Students who skip the November warmup games and then try to score tickets for January rivalry games consistently miss out.

Women's basketball: Baylor Women's Basketball plays at Foster Pavilion too, and the Lady Bears have historically been one of the most dominant programs in college basketball. Women's games are slightly easier to get tickets for while still delivering a top-tier athletic product. If you've never been to a women's basketball game, the pace and precision of play often surprises first-timers.

Getting to Foster Pavilion from Off Campus

Foster Pavilion's location — across the bridge from main campus on the west side of I-35 — means it's not a direct walk from most off-campus housing. From South Waco, the drive is roughly 10-12 minutes depending on traffic.

On game nights, parking near Foster Pavilion fills fast. Baylor operates shuttle routes from designated campus parking lots on game days, which is the easiest option if you're driving. Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) is reliable in Waco for game nights, especially if you're going with a group and can split the cost.

If you live close to campus, biking is a legitimate option — the pedestrian bridge over the Brazos connects the main campus area to the Foster Pavilion side. Check the Baylor parking guide for parking zone details on game days so you don't get caught in restricted lots.

The 2021 NCAA Championship Context

Even if you're a freshman arriving years later, you'll hear about the 2021 championship constantly — and rightfully so. The Bears defeated an undefeated Gonzaga team 86-70 on April 5, 2021, claiming Baylor's first-ever national men's basketball title. Jared Butler won Most Outstanding Player honors with 22 points, backed by MaCio Teague (19 points) and Davion Mitchell (15 points).

It was the first time a Texas school had won the NCAA men's basketball championship since Texas Western in 1966. That 2021 team set the standard for what Baylor basketball looks and feels like now — and it's the identity you're buying into when you commit to attending games.

Centre Apartments and Basketball Season

If you're searching for apartments near Baylor, basketball season is worth factoring into your mental model of campus life. The Foster Pavilion schedule runs November through March — a full half of the academic year — so proximity to campus and the game-night atmosphere is a real quality-of-life factor.

Students at Centre Apartments are a short drive from Foster Pavilion, and the location in South Waco near the Baylor corridor makes it easy to pair game nights with dinner on the way home. The neighborhood page has more on the dining and entertainment options within minutes of the complex — useful context when you're planning a full game-day evening. Our two-bedroom and three-bedroom floor plans are popular with groups of friends who want to split rent and split game-night logistics.

How to Actually Follow Baylor Basketball

Set up your account before school starts — even before your first week. Go to studentgameday.web.baylor.edu, link your Baylor ID, and download the Baylor Bears app. The lottery for the first home games of the season opens in early November, and students who aren't set up miss the first round.

Watch the full schedule. The Baylor basketball schedule releases in late summer. Mark the rivalry game dates immediately and plan to enter those lotteries from day one of the season.

Follow @BaylorMBB and @BaylorWBB on social media. Both official accounts announce ticket windows, Pack the Pavilion point bonuses, and schedule changes in real time.

The cost barrier for student tickets is low — the real cost is showing up to the earlier games to earn the priority points you'll need later. This guide gives you the system. The rest is just showing up.

Schedule a tour if you're still figuring out where to live near campus, or browse floor plans to see what's available for next semester.
